NOTES: This was written for kindness_says for the Holiday Advent Calendar 2011. The prompt was "across the table (send my unsuspecting body into shock)". This is my first Chuck fic, and I hope I didn't butcher it!

“I know I may seem like Mr. Smooth, but the truth is, I don’t have a million moves. All I know is, I love you.”
“I don’t need moves, Devon. Just the fact that you’re trying is enough.”

“This was nice.” Ellie leaned back in her chair, smiling at Devon. She seemed just as shocked as he was about the impromptu romantic dinner.

“Yeah. It, uh, definitely was.” Devon gulped the rest of the wine in his glass. His brain hurt trying to think of how this happened. One minute, he was fairly certain that he was move-less, and the next, Ellie sat across from him, polishing off a piece of pecan pie.

Chuck surely had something to do with it. If there was one thing Devon had learned since he started dating Ellie, it was not to question a good thing when it fell into his lap. But there was something more to this. What was Chuck’s motivation? Sure, he loved Ellie, but this was above and beyond the call of brotherly duty.

Ellie placed her hand on his, gently brushing her thumb across his knuckles. The sensation brought him out of his train of thought. “You were really sweet to do all of this. Thank you.”

He took her hand in his. Her hands smelled like the lotion she kept at the bottom of her purse; like fresh grapefruit. “Well, babe, I… uh.” He hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath. “You’re welcome.”

“How did you do this? I mean, you and I were together all day…”

It seemed wrong to take the credit for it, but at this point, he had no choice.

“It’s magic. That’s what’s awesome about it. You never question magic.”

Ellie sighed. “You’re right. A magician never reveals his secrets.” Her left hand was still linked in his, and she used her right to remove her hair tie. She popped it onto her hand and spread her fingers, expertly shimmying the hair tie down to her wrist.

“Wow.”

“Wow what, this?” She curled her fingers into a fist and held her wrist up, proudly displaying the hair tie-turned bracelet.

“Yeah. That’s talent.”

“I am talented in a myriad of ways, Devon.”

“Is that so?”

“That’s so.”

Devon raised his eyebrows. “What ways are you speaking of? Or is that your version of the magician secrets?”

“I won’t tell you. I will show you. But first, I will make this second piece of pecan pie disappear.”
